DESCRIPTION |
Iron Removal Ion Exchange Resin is a specialized ion exchange material designed for the selective removal of iron ions from water. These resins typically utilize strong acid cation exchange mechanisms or specialized chelating functional groups that show high affinity for iron ions, effectively removing both Fe²⁺ and Fe³⁺ from various water sources.
Groundwater Treatment: Removal of naturally occurring iron from groundwater for municipal and industrial water supplies.
Industrial Process Water: Treating process water to prevent iron contamination in manufacturing processes.
Mining and Metallurgy: Removing iron from process streams and wastewater in mining operations.
Textile and Dyeing Industry: Iron removal to prevent staining and quality issues in textile processing.
Food and Beverage Industry: Producing iron-free water for food processing and beverage production.
Type: Strong Acid Cation or Chelating Resin
Matrix: Polystyrene-DVB or Polyacrylic
Functional Group: Sulfonic Acid or Specialized Iron-Selective Groups
Ionic Form As Shipped: Na⁺ or H⁺
Total Exchange Capacity: ≥1.8 eq/L
Iron Selectivity: High affinity for Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺
Moisture Retention: 45-55%
Particle Size Range: 0.3-1.2 mm
Shipping Weight: 750-850 g/L
Specific Gravity: 1.20-1.30 g/ml
Uniformity Coefficient: ≤1.6
Maximum Operating Temperature: 120°C (Na⁺ form)
Note: These are general guidelines. Specific parameters depend on the resin type and water chemistry.
1. Operating Conditions
Service Flow Rate: 5 - 20 BV/h
Optimal pH Range: 2.5 - 8.0 (depending on resin type)
Operating Temperature: 5 - 50°C
Influent Iron Concentration: Typically effective for 0.1 - 10 mg/L
2. Regeneration
Regenerant: HCl (4-6%), H₂SO₄ (2-5%), or NaCl (8-12%)
Regenerant Dosage: 100 - 200 g acid/L resin or 150 - 250 g NaCl/L resin
Regeneration Flow Rate: 2 - 5 BV/h
Contact Time: 30 - 60 minutes
3. Rinsing
Rinse Flow Rate: 5 - 15 BV/h
Rinse Volume: 2 - 4 Bed Volumes
Rinse Endpoint: Low iron concentration and stable pH/conductivity
4. Performance Indicators
Operating Capacity: Varies with water composition; typically 0.5-1.5 eq/L as iron
Iron Breakthrough: <0.1 mg/L achievable
Regeneration Efficiency: 70-90% depending on regenerant and conditions
5. Important Considerations
Iron Oxidation: Fe²⁺ may oxidize to Fe³⁺ on the resin, potentially affecting performance
Competing Ions: High hardness or sodium concentrations can reduce iron capacity
Fouling Potential: Organic matter or manganese can foul the resin
Pre-treatment: Aeration or oxidation may be needed for certain water types
ADVANTAGES |

High Iron Selectivity: Specifically formulated to preferentially remove iron ions over other cations.
Effective at Low Concentrations: Capable of reducing iron concentrations to below 0.1 mg/L.
Regenerable Operation: Can be regenerated with acid or brine solutions for multiple use cycles.
Stable Performance: Consistent iron removal efficiency across varying water quality conditions.
Compact System Design: Allows for space-efficient treatment systems compared to conventional oxidation-filtration methods.
