DESCRIPTION |
High Selective Ion Exchange Resin for Copper & Palladium Removal is a specialized chelating resin designed with specific functional groups that exhibit extremely high affinity and selectivity for target metal ions like copper (Cu²⁺) and palladium (Pd²⁺), even in the presence of high concentrations of competing ions.
Hydrometallurgy & Mining: For selective recovery and purification of copper and palladium from ore leachates and process streams.
Electroplating & Metal Finishing Rinse Water Treatment: To remove and recover valuable copper and palladium from wastewater, ensuring compliance and resource recycling.
Catalyst Recovery: Specifically for reclaiming palladium from spent catalytic converters and industrial catalyst streams.
Electronic Waste (E-Waste) Recycling: To selectively extract precious metals like palladium and copper from complex e-waste leach solutions.
High-Purity Water Systems: Used as a polishing step to remove trace heavy metals in microelectronics and power plant feedwater.
Note: These are general guidelines. Specific parameters depend on the resin type and solution matrix.
1. Operating Conditions
Service Flow Rate: 5 - 15 BV/h (Bed Volumes per hour).
Influent Metal Concentration: Effective from ppb to hundreds of ppm levels.
Optimal pH Range: Copper: pH 3 - 6; Palladium: Effective even in highly acidic solutions (pH 0 - 2).
Operating Temperature: 5°C - 60°C.
2. Loading & Elution
Loading Cycle Endpoint: Monitored by breakthrough of the target metal or a competing ion.
Eluent (Stripping Agent): Copper: Typically a strong mineral acid (e.g., 2-5 M H₂SO₄ or HCl). Palladium: May require specialized eluents like thiourea in HCl or acidic sodium chlorate.
Eluent Flow Rate: 1 - 3 BV/h.
Contact Time: 30 - 60 minutes for efficient elution.
3. Rinsing
Rinse after Loading: Deionized water to displace interstitial mother liquor.
Rinse after Elution: Deionized water to prepare the resin for the next cycle, until effluent pH is neutral.
4. Performance Indicators
Operating Capacity: Highly dependent on pH and competing ions. Can range from 30 - 70 g Cu/L resin or 30 - 100 g Pd/L resin.
Kinetics: Fast kinetics for metal uptake, achieving saturation quickly.
5. Important Considerations
Solution Matrix: The presence of strong complexing agents (e.g., cyanide, ammonia) can significantly reduce removal efficiency by complexing with the target metals.
Pre-treatment: Filtration is recommended to remove suspended solids that could foul the resin bed.
Resin Specificity: Ensure the selected resin's functional group is matched to the target metal's ionic form and the solution chemistry.
ADVANTAGES |

Exceptional Selectivity: The resin's functional groups (e.g., aminophosphonic for copper, isothiouronium for palladium) preferentially bind target metals over common interferents like calcium, sodium, or zinc.
High Operating Capacity: Offers a high effective capacity specifically for copper and palladium ions, leading to longer service cycles and reduced regeneration frequency.
Ability to Work in Low pH: Many selective resins can effectively operate in acidic environments (pH < 3), which is typical for metal leachates and e-waste processing streams.
Concentration & Purification: Enables the concentration of dilute metal streams into a small volume and provides high-purity recovery of the target metals.
Economic Efficiency: Reduces operational costs by minimizing reagent consumption during elution and enabling the direct recovery of high-value metals.
